🍺 The Great Wedding Keg Myth

Let’s talk about kegs.
Specifically, wedding kegs.
Because somewhere on Pinterest, a well-meaning blog convinced couples that kegs are cheaper, easier, and magically serve themselves while angels sing.
Friends.
Pull up a barstool.
At first glance, kegs sound brilliant.“One big container! Less waste! So efficient!”
But here’s what actually happens at mobile events like weddings.
🚨 Plot Twist #1: Kegs Are Not Cheap Anymore
Gone are the days of the $60 miracle keg. These days, kegs cost real money. Like… “we could’ve bought cases of cans” money.
Which leads us to…
🧊 Plot Twist #2: Kegs Require A LOT of Ice
If you’re not using kegerators (more on that in a second), those kegs have to live inside trash cans.
Yes. Trash cans.
And not just one.
Multiple trash cans.
Each one filled with ice.
And that ice? Needs to be replenished repeatedly throughout the event to keep beer between 34–40°F.
So now you need:
• extra trash can rentals• massive amounts of ice• multiple coolers• people and vehicles transporting said ice• space near your bar for all of this
Suddenly your beautiful wedding bar looks like a backstage storage room at a gas station.
Not exactly the vibe.
⚙️ Plot Twist #3: You Still Need Equipment
To actually serve those kegs, you’ll need:
• Kegerators (which are expensive to rent)• CO₂ pumps (also not cheap)• OR hand pumps (which slow service dramatically)
Fun bartender confession: I have literally had hand pumps fall apart in my hands at weddings. They’re rented constantly, rarely serviced well, and absolutely love choosing violence mid-pour.
Nothing kills bar flow like a broken pump and a foamy IPA.
😵 Plot Twist #4: Foam Is Your New Best Friend
Before your wedding, each keg must be stored at 34–40°F.
Then, when transported, it must be barely jostled.
Barely. Think sleeping toddler.
If that keg gets shaken even a little, congratulations. You’ve unlocked:
✨ Foam City ✨
Foamy beer slows service, wastes product, frustrates guests, and makes your bartender question their life choices.
Ideally, kegs should sit undisturbed at proper temperature for 48 hours before service.
Which usually requires:
• a walk-in cooler at your venue• access to it two days before your wedding
Most venues do not offer this.
🧮 Final Plot Twist: It Usually Costs More
By the time you factor in:
• keg cost• trash cans• ice• coolers• equipment rentals• labor• wasted beer from foam
Kegs often end up costing more than canned beer.
Meanwhile, canned beer:
✅ stores easily✅ pours fast✅ needs zero pumps✅ requires less ice✅ takes up less space✅ keeps your bar moving
Cans poured into cups are almost always the simpler, cheaper, smoother option.
💕 But Here’s the Thing…
It’s your wedding.
Your day.
If you want kegs, we will absolutely make it work.
Our job is never to tell you “no.”Our job is to tell you the logistics before you’re standing in heels next to a foaming keg wondering what went wrong.
We believe in transparency, realistic expectations, and bars that actually function.
Crafting memories. Pouring joy. Not wrestling beer pumps.
